The Canadian Society of Decorative Arts/ Cercle canadien des arts décoratifs was formed, with the generous support of the Macdonald Stewart Foundation, to provide a forum for all those interested in the decorative arts.

"With Ornamentvm, we intend to begin an ongoing exploration of not only the creative context and talent through which the decorative arts are born, but also the aesthetics and meaning of the things made in terms of historical precedent, tradition and innovation. Our purpose is to reach and awaken a broad and general readership to the importance and interest of the decorative arts in Canada. From architecture through period styles and the postmodern to zebras, the decorative arts encompass both the fine arts and the aesthetic of the everyday. They often constitute the means through which we recognize and define the notion of style. They express and enhance our need to create and to project ourselves into the spaces in which we live."
