CSDA/CCAD Sundays, Special Event

Charlotte's Closet: Tender Care for Slow Fashion with Charlotte Mickie.

Sunday, April 26, 2026, 2:00PM.

In-person at 955 Millwood Road, Toronto, ON.

Seeking alternatives to the global fashion industry, consumers are discovering consignment, vintage, repurposing, and the joy of shopping their own closets.  Working creatively with what one already has can be deeply satisfying.  The planet benefits, too.

But how should we care for the contents of our closets?  Whether our items are bespoke creations or thrifted gems, maintenance is key to preserving our favourite pieces, yet traditional rituals of cleaning, storing, mending, and altering now seem shrouded in mystery.

Help is imminent!  Please join us for tea and sweets as the CSDA’s own Charlotte Mickie shares her tips for wardrobe management.  Charlotte hopes you’ll share your secrets, too, and help create an on-site forum for exchanging helpful hints, references to trusty tradespeople, fibre facts, and more.

BIOGRAPHY:

Mentored by a mom who was both a clotheshorse and an exceptional seamstress, and named by Toronto Life as one of Toronto’s “best dressed,” Charlotte Mickie is an avid amateur clothing conservationist.

Charlotte manages a consulting company for the film industry, and serves on the Board of the Canadian Society of Decorative Arts.  Charlotte’s advocacy on behalf of tenants and built-form heritage was recently showcased in the TVO documentary CHARLOTTE’S CASTLE.

The Canadian Society of Decorative Arts primarily operates out of Tkaronto/Toronto, Ontario. We recognize that the city is situated on the traditional territory and unceded lands of the Anishnaabe, Haudenosaunee, Huron-Wendat, and Mississaugas of the Credit.

The Canadian Society of Decorative Arts/ Cercle canadien des arts décoratifs was formed, with the generous support of the Macdonald Stewart Foundation, to provide a forum for all those interested in the decorative arts.
